Step ONE to a Healthy Lifestyle

So you want to be healthier? No matter what that means to you, the steps are all the same.

Step ONE:

 Set a GOAL

1. Set a long-term goal.  Is that goal weight loss, more exercise, etc? What would the FINAL and ULTIMATE goal be? Set a realistic time to that goal.  No, losing 30 lbs in a month is not realistic.  But losing 4-8 lbs is (see #2).

2.  Break that long term goal into smaller, reachable goals.  Key here is reachable.  If you set a goal too high and fail, you may be less likely to continue towards your long term goal.  Set dates to your smaller goals, much like your longer goal.  Want to run a marathon next summer? Then set a goal of a 10K in two months.

3.  WRITE IT DOWN.  Make a "contract" with yourself.  Put it somewhere visible.

Use this week to put some serious thought into the above items.  Stay tuned for Step TWO next week..............

  1. Indeed. Goals that are not written may vanish into thin air when distracted. When one writes it and posts it on somewhere one can see it almost everyday, it serves as a reminder of that goal yet to reach.

  2. When writing it down, it is also advisable to write it down in simple, measurable terms. Like if one plans to lose weight, state a goal with realistic plan like 2lbs to lose within two weeks and the likes. While the saying that "what is not written is not done" when it comes to documenting your goals, it is important that it be stated and written in a complete statement.

  3. Best way to remind yourself on the things you should do is to take note of it and stick it to somewhere where you could always see it. This way, you could remember all the things you have to do.

  6. Having a set goal with concrete steps is helpful. People want to be healthy. They just don't how to do it.

  7. Having a healthy lifestyle is really everyone's dream. But the sad reality is that, living a healthy life is hard to do for most of us because of our current way of life.

  8. It's definitely a must to keep things small when talking about health. Sure, you want to get rid of those love handles and that beer belly, but doing it so suddenly would cause more damage to your body than any additional fat could. Moderation is the key to everything.

  9. Starting had always been easy for almost everyone dreaming to lead a healthier lifestyle. But somehow, these starts doesn't stay longer. Soon, as expected, we humans go back to the old ways. The challenge I believe is not in starting nor planning, but sticking to what one started.
